Save up and make your own protective face mask!

The current situation that the world is facing as a result of the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic has sparked a state of alert and vigilance -along with panic- all around the world. Families, individuals, companies, professional work environments, and organizations have started taking extra precautions to protect themselves from the deadly threats of the COVID-19 virus. One of the most important of those precautions is wearing a protective face mask to protect yourself from getting infected as well as protect those around you.

According to most experts of doctors, researchers, and medical professionals, not just any face mask will do as cheap thin masks have been proven to be not effective at shielding your system from the surrounding infections. So in order for the mask to do its job, it has to be of thick fabric or several layers, and it has to be covering both the nose and lips to prevent transmission of the virus.

Dr. Richard Johnson, a specialist in clinical pharmacology and therapeutic nutrition, says that a carbon mask is the ideal face mask. However, other than being a bit pricey, the demand worldwide is huge and the priority has to go to medical workers and front-liners who risk their lives to protect ours.

Luckily, there is a way around it, you can make your own protective face mask at home with a 95% effectiveness and at a much lower cost. How? Let’s find out!

The components you will need to make the mask

  • A transparent case or file
  • Plastic glasses
  • Office clip or paper clip
  • ِA cheap face mask
  • Elastic rubber

How to make the mask?

  • Cut the transparent case or file according to the glasses’ length, then hold them together using the paper clips.
  • Attach the rubber steak to the ends of the glasses so that it looks like the store-bought face masks.
  • Wear this mask on your face and then wear a cheap store-bought mask on top of it.

Decorating the mask (Optional)

The purpose of a face mask is strictly medical, however, some people love to add a fashionable touch on everything they are wearing. If you are one of those people, decorating your DIY face mask could be a good choice for you.

You can follow whatever fashion trend or style you prefer, you can go fo some embroidery, colors, or even glitter. And the decorated mask can be worn as a cover over the real mask for more protection.

It is important to acknowledge that we are not underestimating the status quo and the seriousness of the disease. However, if decorating the mask is what will encourage you or your children to wear your face mask, then, by all means, decorate your mask. The only thing that matters is that you are practicing the needed and recommended precautions for your sake and the sake of those around you.

Note: This mask is advised for carriers of the disease or Coronavirus patients. If you have tested positive for COVID-19, commit to completely quarantining yourself and wear a disposable medical face mask and gloves while interacting with others (if you must).
