Now that we are all quarantined at home due to the global pandemic, Coronavirus, we don’t have the ability to do go to our favorite beauty salons and spas to take care of our skin and pamper. On the contrary, you could use the extra free time you have now to learn how to take care of your skin in a better way using healthy natural products instead of harsh chemicals and expensive store-bought skincare products.
To help get you started, we’ve compiled for you a list of DIY recipes and at-home skincare remedies consisting only of natural and budget-friendly ingredients that you can find lying around the house. ENJOY!
1. Sugar face scrub
Make your own face scrub with just three simple ingredients, sugar, honey, and body oil. This homemade exfoliant will help you get rid of all the dead skin and flakes while nourishing and moisturizing the skin.
How to use:
- Mix half a cup of brown sugar with 3 tablespoons of honey and stir until a thick paste is formed.
- Then add 2 tablespoons of the oil of your choice (almond or coconut are highly recommended) and blend all ingredients together until they form a light spreadable paste.
- Spread the scrub over your cleaned skin rubbing it lightly in a circular motion. Then leave it on for 5-10 minutes and rinse it with warm water.
Note: if you have sensitive skin, avoid this recipe for the sugar can be a bit too harsh.
2. Soothing Aloe Vera Face Mask
Aloe Vera has countless benefits to the skin, hair, and body, it is composed of anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, in addition to its moisturizing and rejuvenating abilities. So using aloe vera in a sooting face mask will help calm irritated skin as well as giving it a glowy plumped look.
How to use:
- Mix 1/2 tablespoon of almond milk with one tablespoon of brown sugar and stir until sugar is completely dissolved.
- Add 4 tablespoons of aloe vera gel to the milk sugar mix.
- Apply this mixture onto your clean face and let it sit for about 15-20 minutes then wash it off with warm water and enjoy a fresh and radiant looking skin.
3. Yogurt pore tightener
Something not a lot of people know about yogurt is that among its various benefits, it also works miracles when it comes to cleansing and tightening large pores and getting rid of skin blemishes. The lactic acid in yogurt dissolves any impurities in the pores and shrinks them as well as rejuvenating dead skin cells leaving your skin looking clearer and smoother.
How to use:
- It couldn’t be easier, get 2 tablespoons of previously refrigerated yogurt in a bowl. Apply a thick layer of the yogurt to the affected areas of your face or where you have larger pores.
- Leave on for 20 minutes then remove using wet cotton pads with tipped water.
- Repeat twice a week and you should start seeing a difference in your pores from the second week.
4. Potato eye mask
This may seem weird but potatoes have actually been proven to wildly effective when it comes to puffy and dark circles under eyes. Also, it is a one-ingredient remedy that is incredibly easy to make so you won’t have any excuses!
How to use:
- Peel a potato, cut it in half, then cut a thin slice.
- Cut that slice in half creating two curvy pads to fit under your eyes.
- Apply the potato eye pads under your eyes and hold them there for 15-20 minutes, then remove them and wash under your eyes with cool water.
- You can do this remedy daily to keep your eyes looking fresh, healthy, and radiant.
5. Honey lip scrub
You can’t forget your lips! Scrubbing the lips on a regular basis, especially with honey helps give it a naturally plump and smooth look and also helps make your lipstick application look flawless.
How to use:
- Put 1 teaspoon of coconut oil, 1 teaspoon of honey, 2 teaspoons of sugar, and a dash of lemon juice in a small bowl, and mix together.
- Apply the mixture to your lips with a new toothbrush in a gentle circular motion.
- Leave on for 2-3 minutes, then rinse off with tipped water.
- Follow up with your favorite nourishing lip balm.
6. Oatmeal exfoliant body mask
Ground oats help remove excess oil, sebum buildup, and dead skin, leaving the skin clean and rejuvenated. So it makes for a great exfoliant mask for the body, especially when mixed with honey.
How to use:
- Mix 2 tablespoons of oats with 1 tablespoon of honey and a dash of water.
- Warm up the mixture a little, then apply it by rubbing it into your skin in a gentle circular motion.
- You can rinse it off right away or you can leave it on for 15-20 minutes since rinse off with warm water for an extra soothing and hydrating effect.
7. Milk hand soak
Our hands are usually the most exhausted parts of our skin. And currently due to the over washing and overuse of disinfectants and hand sanitizer to protect from coronavirus, our hands are always left dry, flaky, and pale. But soaking your hands in milk will help hydrate your hands and nourish its dry skin thanks to the fats and different vitamins the milk contains.
How to use:
- Heat 2-3 cups of whole milk in the microwave until it’s warm but not too hot.
- Pour the milk into a large bowl and soak your hands in it for 5-10 minutes.
- Take your hands out and wash with cool water. You will see the difference in your hands from the very first try.
All of the previously mentioned at-home remedies consist of 1-3 ingredients and would take less than 15 minutes to prepare, in addition to the fact that they cost almost nothing.
