Stages of establishing the United Arab Emirates Federation
The idea of establishing the Federation of the United Arab Emirates was sparked since Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan – may God have mercy on his soul – ruled the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in 1966 AD, and in accordance with Britain’s announcement of withdrawal from all Gulf regions in 1968. This helped to overcome many difficulties, and accordingly, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan, the Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, arranged a meeting to discuss matters of the UAE federation; in order to protect the emirates of the oil coast, which resulted in a federal agreement between the emirates of Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and then Sheikh Zayed called for the union of the seven emirates, and in 1971, six emirates were united together, however, the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah joined in 1972. Then Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan was elected president of the United Arab Emirates.
